Since Wikipedia is a user-populated content site, I went there to see just who provided this definition. I found something new for me - the United Professional Sales Association (www.uspa-intl.org). The references come from their Free Compendium of Professional Selling. Sounds like that is worth a read, too.

Stumbling onto "sales process" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_process) I got this:

"Often a bad sales experience can be analyzed and shown to have skipped key steps. This is where good sales processes mediate risk for both buyer and seller."

Wow number 4.
